Okay. You may be surprised to know that I visit xiaxue's blog once in a while.

She raved about the food and ambiance.

Finally, one day when I was going to meet up with Rach and Charlene I suggested that place and so we decided to go give it a shot.
4th May2007. That was few weeks ago already.
I must say the restaurant ambiance is really really nice.
It is cozy but not squeezy and the lighting is at its optimum level.
The food on the other hand, is not as cheap as Xiaxue put to be. Yes, the prices are similar to Cafe Cartel's but the portions are a lot smaller.

and I have to say that their Signature dish the butterfish steak (described as chewy, creamy and sweet) was too chewy for me, almost rubbery and when I had the dish it was just warm. It was served with very yummy truffle hand-mashed potatoes and mango salsa. I skipped the salsa (i had cough and i'm super sensitive to mango) so I should have been slapped because the chef must have painstakingly prepared the dish such that the textures and flavours of the fish, fruit and potatoes complement each other. And Rach and Charlene both agreed the fish tasted so much better with the salsa.

The star of the night was the Deep-fried Camembert Cheese with Berry Compote that Xiaxue loved too. OMG. it was like OOOMPH!
So good. Unbelievable you have to try it yourself.
It is served with berry compote, and the cheese just melts. If you cut it open, the melted cheese just flows out. The cheese is pretty salty so the sweetness of the berry compote balances it out, and this 'dip' is more liquid rather than creamy so it makes it lighter.

Anyway Rachel had the beer battered fish fillet and she enjoyed it. But really she was just dying for the oxtail stew (which was out that night). I think we might have to return for her to try it. hahahah. and Charlene had a Rib eye and Onion wrap that was also chef's recommendation. We each ordered a dessert cause we are THE bunch of hungry-for-all-things-sweet-and-yummy people and we could not have possibly skipped dessert!!!!
Panna Cotta for me, chocolate cake for Charlene and Frozen lemon Souffle for Rach.
First of all, how much better can Panna Cotta get!!!?
It was smooth, there was rich sweetness of the vanilla flavour but at the same time the dessert was light enough to end the meal. Though a bit sweet for my taste [i have a sweet tooth but i still like low sugar (translates fewer calories!)hehehh] , I have no regrets!!!

And I tried a bit of Rachel's Souffle. It is pretty interesting cause I thought all souffles were baked, and this was frozen. Refreshing and interesting. The portion was a little larger than usual.
and I'm sorry to say I did not try Charlene's cake but i think it was also up to expectations.
